Terra Nostra Park

Internationally renowned, the Terra Nostra Botanical Park is over two hundred years old. Started in 1775 by the US Consul on São Miguel Island, Thomas Hickling buil this summer home here, known as Yankee Hall.
Weaving through 12,5 hecatres (31 acres) of gardens, grottoes, lush avenues, serpentine trails, streams and ponds, you can find Rhododendrons from Malaysia, or the unique Victoria Cruziana, as well as collections of Camellias, Cycads, and over 300 varieties of Ferns.

The Botanical Park´s next highlight is the famous thermal water pool.
The volcanic hot spring nourishes the pool with temperatures between 35 and 40 degrees Celsius (95º and 104º F),creating such calm and relaxation you can only find in rare corners of the world.

Perfectly nestled in this magic scenery is Terra Nostra Garden Hotel, with its restaurant, where you can sample the most typical meal in the Azores islands, the famous “Cozido das Furnas”, cooked with the steam of the Furnas hot springs.

The geothermal pool in the Terra Nostra Garden is undoubtedly one of the highlights of the Azores.
The geothermal pool, which already boasted an island in the centre, was enlarged when the property was acquired by Vasco Bensaude in 1935. It was also enhanced by stone masonry and has remained unchanged until today, save for a few minor repairs.

Properties
Whenever a visitor describes their trip to the Azores, the geothermal pool is always one of those special experiences. The warm spring water supplying the pool (35º C to 40º C) provides a feeling of rest and relaxation that is possible at very few locations in the world.
The water, which is rich in essential minerals, is one of the best ways to recharge your batteries and experience the mystical natural surroundings of the Terra Nostra Garden and the Furnas Valley, which leave a lasting impression on everyone who visits the island, causing many to return, year after year, for the unique sensation of the waters of the geothermal pool at the Terra Nostra Garden.
